Enhanced computing seeks to blur the lines between human and computer interaction. By using technologies typically reserved for AI applications, traditional applications can be enhanced and made more useable. The goal is to make the users experience as natural and intuitive as possible. Another goal is to extend the capabilities of current applications - to help the user do more with less effort. The ideas behind Enhanced Computing are featured prominently in my newly released book, "Building Intelligent .NET Applications: Agents, Data Mining, Rule-based systems, and Speech Processing".

Additional Web Site Resources
Research Channel - GREAT resource for all kinds of leading edge scientific information. Features lectures from leading Universities and Research Institutes.
Americian Association for Artificial Intelligence - Good resource for general information about AI. For readers that know very little about AI, check out the AI topics website link.
Agent Land - This site can be used to access the latest commercially available agents along with information about agents in general.
VHost SitePal - SitePal allows you to place animated speaking characters anywhere on your website. The characters can be custom built and can utilize a text to speech voice, or your own pre-recorded voice. There is also an AI engine available for creating highly dynamic characters.
Microsoft Research - Home Page for the Microsoft Research group. Use this to find out what are the projects and technolgies under development at Microsoft. Many of the technolgies developed here are AI-based.
SQL Server Data Mining Group - Run by members of Microsoft's SQL Server Data Mining group, this website is a great resource for all information about SQL Server 2000 and the upcoming 2005 version.
PCAI Magazine - Online magazine that focuses on building practical PC business-minded applications using AI-based technolgies.
Cyberlife Research - For readers wanting to know more about "Real AI", check out this web site run by the inventor of the game known as Creatures, Steve Grand. Steve is an independent scientist hard at work creating the next generation of Artificial Intelligence. His work is primarily biologically-based and he seeks to not just duplicate intelligent functionality, but to build a truly intelligent being.
